A 14-year-old boy extinguished a fire at his family home in Limavady after a suspected petrol bomb was thrown at the property. No one was injured in the incident on Sperrin Road in the early hours of Thursday 4 June.

Roberta McElwee said she and her three children were in bed shortly before 1am when they heard a loud bang. She looked out and saw flames at the front door, and noticed a strong smell of petrol.

Her son, Corey, ran to the kitchen and carried buckets of water to douse the flames before they could spread inside. The front door sustained scorch damage but the fire did not enter the house.

Ms McElwee said Corey was 14 years old and had heart conditions, having undergone surgery when he was eight days old. She described his actions as incredibly brave. Her other children, aged eight and seven, slept through the incident.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said they were investigating the attack. Inspector Redmond stated that a device had been thrown at the property, causing damage. Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or who has CCTV or doorbell footage to come forward.
