Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead and a child seriously injured at a property in Lisnahull Road, Dungannon, on Saturday morning. A male has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in custody.

Officers attended the address shortly after 11am following a report of an incident. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured child was taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland's Major Investigation Team is leading enquiries. The area around the property has been sealed off to allow for forensic examination, and members of the public have been asked to avoid it.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at 11.08am and dispatched a helicopter crew, three emergency crews, one advanced care paramedic, two ambulance officers and one Hazardous Area Response Team crew.

Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Varsani, chair of Mid Ulster District Council, described the incident as a serious domestic matter. She said there was a strong sense of shock and trauma in the local community and urged anyone with information to contact police.

Police have not released details about the identities or ages of those involved. A further update is expected in due course.
