About Northern Ireland Digest
Keeping up with Northern Ireland news is frustrating: there are hundreds of sources scattered across council websites, community blogs, public services, local papers and Facebook groups. Nobody has time to check it all, and existing aggregators increasingly require subscriptions or are too infested with ads to be readable.
Content curation here is fully automated, combining over 200 local news sources. While AI lacks good judgement, it can extract factual content and summarize it quite reliably. Some articles may group incorrectly or contain errors, so always verify anything important. The goal is only to aggregate news, not to report it.
Northern Ireland Digest is not operated for profit, although at some point donations may be accepted to cover costs.
Ranking
Stories rank by a combination of source coverage and recency. Articles covered by multiple sources appear higher, while routine government and education announcements are ranked lower. Individual topics can also be demoted, but this is only done to improve the quality of ranking.
Selection
Opinion pieces, non-news, promotions, and topics that aren't about Northern Ireland are excluded. The site is currently indiscriminate about what is posted, except that articles based on a single source are delayed by at least an hour.
