Police in Northern Ireland are investigating two arson attacks on residential properties that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 28 March. No one was injured in either case.

In Downpatrick, County Down, officers responded to a report of fire at a property on Saul Street around 1:50am. The front door was on fire and several ground-floor windows were smashed. Two occupants left the house safely.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire before it reached nearby buildings. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Police classify the incident as arson with intent to endanger life. Reference number 80 of 28/03/26 applies.

In Ballymena, County Antrim, a report came in around 3:05am of two petrol bombs thrown at a ground-floor flat in the Drumtara area. One occupant was inside at the time.

Officers found evidence of petrol bombs and a smashed living room window. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service was on site. Police treat this as arson with intent to endanger life. Reference number 132 of 28/03/26 applies.
