Three arrests after north Belfast stabbing; two police officers assaulted
Police in north Belfast have arrested three men following a stabbing that left a man with injuries to his head and hand on Thursday evening, 9 July.
Emergency services were called to the Fortwilliam Park area at around 8.40pm after a report that a man had been stabbed. Officers provided first aid at the scene before the victim was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Three men were detained. Two of them became aggressive towards police during the arrest and continued to act aggressively in custody, resulting in two officers being assaulted.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault on police, and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault on police, and attempted criminal damage. A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and theft.
All three men remain in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has dash-cam, CCTV, or other footage, to come forward.
