Two men in their 20s have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed multiple times in the Fitzroy Avenue area of south Belfast on Wednesday, 12 August.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said officers responded to a report of a stabbing at around 7.30pm. The injured man had sustained puncture wounds to his chest and neck and was bleeding from his left ear. He was taken to hospital for treatment, and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening at that stage.

A specialist firearms team was deployed during the incident, according to the PSNI. One man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A second man, also in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and theft.

Both men remained in custody on Thursday, 13 August, as enquiries continued.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at 7.28pm and sent a rapid response paramedic, an advanced paramedic, and an ambulance crew to the scene. One patient was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
