A van driver was arrested in north Belfast after police were alerted by a member of the public.

Road Policing Officers were on the Shore Road when a member of the public approached them and reported that the van was acting suspiciously.

The driver was found to be disqualified from driving in the Republic of Ireland for ten years. The disqualification runs from February 2018 to February 2028.

Because of the Irish disqualification, police said he should not have been driving in Northern Ireland. He also had no insurance.

He was arrested at the scene and will spend the night in custody before appearing at court in the morning.

The van was seized. The driver has indicated that he wants it to be crushed.

Police thanked the member of the public who brought the matter to their attention.
