Police in Northern Ireland arrested a driver almost three times over the legal drink-drive limit following a single-vehicle crash in the Newry area on Wednesday morning. Officers from the Ardmore Local Policing Team attended the scene and arrested the motorist at the roadside after a breath test. The individual remains in custody and faces a magistrates' court appearance. No injuries occurred.

In a separate case over the weekend, Road Policing Officers from Portadown's Mahon Road station responded to reports of a driver acting aggressively toward garage staff near Lisburn. Staff suspected the man was drunk. Officers tried to stop the vehicle on the motorway near Portadown, but the driver refused and led a pursuit into the Craigavon area along country roads.

Specially trained officers used tactics to halt the vehicle. The driver fled on foot but was caught nearby. Police charged him with multiple driving offences for a court appearance.

A police spokesperson stated that such drivers disregard the safety of others on the roads. Police will act to prevent risks to the public. The spokesperson warned motorists against drink-driving.
