A two-year programme supporting multicultural women in Derry has been celebrated at an event attended by the city’s mayor.

The Connect programme, run by the Women’s Centre Derry, was funded by PEACEPLUS through the Derry City and Strabane District Council Action Plan, which is in turn supported by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Mayor Councillor Grace Uí Niallais attended the ‘Celebrating Cultural Diversity’ event at the Guildhall earlier this week.

The mayor said the programme acts as a community hub, helping women and members of Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups access local resources on employment, volunteering and education, and ensuring they integrate fully into the community.

The event marked the completion of the Connect initiative, which has operated for two years.
