A Strabane man appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court on charges including stalking, harassment, and making threats to kill his former partner.

Ruaidhri Gallagher, 41, of Orchard Road, Strabane, faces seven alleged offences between October 5 and November 2. The charges are aggravated by domestic abuse, reflecting the alleged relationship context.

Police were contacted by the woman, who reported ongoing domestic abuse. She stated she had been in a relationship with Gallagher for less than a month in October. After she ended the relationship, she provided officers with over one hundred screenshots of messages allegedly from Gallagher.

Gallagher is alleged to have repeatedly accused her of having sexual contact with other men and to have called her various names. On one occasion, it is alleged he became aggressive and grabbed her phone while they were in bed. After the relationship ended, Gallagher allegedly made over two hundred phone calls and sent over one hundred messages, including a photo of himself outside a police station while she was making a statement. He is also accused of threatening to slit her throat during an argument.

During police interview, Gallagher admitted making the calls and sending the messages, telling officers he was "not proud" of his actions. He denied making threats to kill and assaulting his former partner.

Defence solicitor John McManus said Gallagher denied the threats and assaults. He noted that Gallagher and the woman had met in person twice in recent days, and that Gallagher lives 15 miles away.

District Judge granted bail with conditions: Gallagher must not enter Derry city except for court appearances, must not use social media, must have no contact with the woman, and may only have a phone for calls and texts with access details given to police.

Gallagher is due to appear again on December 2.
