Enniskillen promenade section to close for Forum redevelopment works
A section of the Castle Basin Promenade in Enniskillen will close from Monday, November 9 to allow infrastructure upgrades linked to the redevelopment of the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum.
The temporary closure affects the walkway beside the Forum redevelopment site. Pedestrians will still be able to access Derrychara Pedestrian Bridge and the jetties from Shore Road Car Park. Access to Castle Island and the jetties will remain available from the Enniskillen Castle side.
However, there will be no through pedestrian access between Shore Road Car Park and Enniskillen Castle for the duration of the works.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council said the closure was necessary to facilitate infrastructure upgrades as part of the wider redevelopment project, which is being delivered on the banks of the River Erne.
The £20 million project, supported by UK Government funding, will see the existing leisure facilities replaced with a new health and wellbeing hub. When completed, the centre will include an eight-lane swimming pool, learner pool and splash pad, alongside a gym and fitness suite.
Plans also include community wellbeing spaces, a sensory room, soft play facilities and a café. Outside, the development will feature a destination play park, pump track, 3G pitch, active waterfront and connected walking and cycling trails.
The new facility is set to become Ireland's first Passivhaus-certified leisure centre, with the standard designed to ensure high levels of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Construction work is being carried out by contractor GRAHAM, with the new leisure centre expected to open in summer 2028.
The council apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary walkway closure and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation while the redevelopment works continue.
