Lithuanian Woman Arrested in Coalisland for Child Sexual Abuse After Hiding in Wardrobe
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit arrested a 23-year-old woman in Coalisland, County Tyrone, on a Lithuanian extradition warrant. She is wanted in Lithuania for serious sexual offences committed against a child in the Mazeikiai area.
The woman was discovered hiding inside a wardrobe after officers forced entry to a rural property in the Coalisland area. She was detained without further incident.
She is scheduled to appear before Laganside Extradition Court in Belfast on Thursday 4 June.
Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit stated that the arrest demonstrates the PSNI's ongoing work to locate, arrest and bring before the courts those wanted for serious offences in Europe. He noted that despite her efforts to hide, she was apprehended, and the operation showed the service's commitment to pursuing perpetrators and supporting victims.
Superintendent Marty Reid, head of the PSNI Extradition Unit, said the PSNI is committed to tracking down fugitives and supporting European law enforcement partners. He added that the PSNI is increasingly engaged with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol and Europol to deliver justice for victims in Northern Ireland and abroad.
