Woman arrested in wardrobe during extradition operation in Coalisland
A 23-year-old woman was arrested in the Coalisland area of County Tyrone on Wednesday after being found hiding in a wardrobe by police executing an extradition warrant from Lithuania.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s International Policing Unit forced entry to a rural property and discovered the woman concealed inside the wardrobe. She was detained on a Lithuanian extradition warrant linked to serious sexual offences against a child committed in the Mazeikiai area of Lithuania.
She is expected to appear before Laganside Extradition Court in Belfast on Thursday, June 4.
Sergeant Davey of the International Policing Unit described the arrest as an example of the force working to locate and bring before courts those wanted for serious offences in Europe. He said despite efforts to hide, the fugitive was apprehended, and the action delivers on assurances of relentlessly pursuing perpetrators and supporting victims.
Superintendent Marty Reid, head of the PSNI Extradition Unit, stated the force is committed to tracking down fugitives and assisting European law enforcement partners. He noted increased engagement with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol, and Europol to deliver justice for victims in Northern Ireland and abroad.
