Police report high speeds on Omagh roads after fatal collisions
Police carried out speed enforcement on the Clanabogan Road and Drumlish Road near Omagh in recent days.
Both roads have a 60mph limit. Officers recorded multiple vehicles travelling above this limit, with the highest speed measured at 82mph.
The Clanabogan Road has seen two fatal collisions since March. The Drumlish Road has also recorded serious incidents.
At 82mph, total stopping distance exceeds 125 metres. Officers stated this distance means drivers cannot stop in time for hazards such as a child on the road, a vehicle emerging from a junction, or an animal crossing.
Inappropriate speed is listed by police as one of the Fatal Four main causes of death and serious injury on Northern Ireland roads.
A PSNI spokesperson said enforcement aims to prevent further tragedies. Motorists were advised to check speed and allow extra time for journeys.
