PSNI Reports High-Speed Driving Incident and Drink-Driving Arrest in Tyrone
Police in Tyrone stopped a man in his 20s driving at almost 100mph on the A5 on Friday night. Officers observed him performing risky overtaking moves on the busy road. He faces court proceedings.
A police spokesperson noted that the driver's actions as a young motorist risked serious consequences, including his employment.
Separately, police arrested a man in his 60s near Greencastle yesterday morning. He drove at around twice the legal drink-drive limit, held only a provisional licence, and lacked insurance. He also faces court.
The spokesperson stated the man must answer for his decisions before a judge.
PSNI reported 29 road deaths in Northern Ireland this year over just more than four months.
Officers continue to encounter speeding, drink or drug driving, and phone use while driving.
The police urged drivers to address the Fatal Five: control speed, avoid phone use and distractions, wear seatbelts, and never drink or drug drive. They emphasised shared responsibility for road safety to prevent injuries and deaths.
