A man in his 20s was arrested after the front door of a flat in Finmore Court, east Belfast, was set on fire early on Monday morning.

Police received a report of the arson attack at around 3am.

Three people inside the property, two women aged in their 40s and 30s and a man in his 30s, escaped without injury.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended with appliances from Knock and Central fire stations and used breathing apparatus and hose reels to put out the fire.

Investigators believe accelerant was used to start the fire.

The man arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Finmore Court area between midnight and 3am to contact police on 101, quoting reference 104 18/05/26.
