Man Arrested After Arson Fire Damages Antrim Supermarket
Police in Antrim arrested a man in his 20s following an arson attack on a Spar store on Greystone Road. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at the premises around 3:35am. Officers from the PSNI and firefighters from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. Fire crews from Antrim Fire Station used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, and one jet to put out the blaze by 5:20am.
No injuries occurred. The fire caused extensive damage to the Spar store and a neighbouring business. A defibrillator outside the store was also damaged.
The man was arrested shortly after on suspicion of arson, attempted criminal damage, and theft. He remains in custody as police continue enquiries.
The PSNI described the fire as deliberate ignition. Officers requested information from witnesses who saw suspicious activity in the Greystone Road area or have CCTV, dashcam, or other footage.
