Derry Nun Sister Clare Crockett Honoured on 10th Anniversary of Death
Sister Clare Crockett from Derry died on August 16, 2016, when the school in Playa Prieta, Ecuador, where she taught collapsed in an earthquake.
The annual Sister Clare Crockett Retreat began on April 13 and runs until April 19 in Derry.
Her family stated that April 16 remains fixed in their minds and hearts as the day their lives changed after her death.
The family noted pride in her global legacy and the faith she inspired, including crowds at Long Tower chapel.
They plan to celebrate her life with stories despite their grief and expressed thanks for support from an extended community.
Sister Clare belonged to the Home of the Mother order, which released an online series titled '10 Years, 10 Moments: Sister Clare, Memories Left to Tell' on YouTube.
In 2025, the cause for her beatification opened at a ceremony in Madrid, where she received the title Servant of God.
