Belfast Boy Mason Keilhauer Laid to Rest After Fatal Car Collision
An 11-year-old boy from Belfast died in hospital after a collision with a grey BMW X5 near the junction with Boundary Street off Shankill Road. The incident occurred shortly before 7.30pm on Saturday March 7. He is survived by parents Peter and Michele, and siblings Ashton, Lacey and Freyja.
Hundreds lined the streets of Shankill Road on Monday for the funeral procession. The cortege left the family home at Westway Crescent at 11am in a white carriage pulled by two white horses. Shops and businesses lowered their shutters as it passed.
A service took place at Living Hope Church at noon, followed by burial in Roselawn Cemetery. The family requested that young people not attend with bikes, scooters, electric bikes, scramblers or quad bikes.
Tributes appeared on a wall near the collision site, including messages, photos, flowers and teddies. A mural honouring the boy emerged in the area.
On Thursday evening, parents and schoolchildren held a vigil outside the family home with a balloon release using red, white and blue balloons.
During St Patrick's Day events on Saturday, members of the Shankill Protestant Boys Flute Band stopped at the collision site and played Absent Friends.
A minute's applause occurred in the 11th minute of the BetMcLean Cup final between Linfield and Glentoran at Windsor Park on Sunday.
