Five Dead in Northern Ireland Road Crashes Over Weekend
Five people died in road collisions in Northern Ireland over the weekend of April 25-26. Police recorded 29 road fatalities up to April 26 this year.
A 16-year-old male passenger from County Tipperary died at the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Belfast Road near Nutts Corner before 08:00 BST on Sunday, April 26. The crash involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Volkswagen Passat. The Passat driver had minor injuries. Two other Passat passengers went to hospital, including a 10-year-old child in critical condition. Police arrested the Golf driver on suspicion of motoring offences. Two people died in a crash on Glenavy Road, Upper Ballinderry, County Antrim, around 18:00 BST on Saturday, April 25. The collision involved a motorcycle and a car. One person was taken to hospital.
Patrick Deery, 61, from the Dungannon area, died at the scene of a single-vehicle motorcycle collision on Clanabogan Road near Omagh before 11:00 BST on Sunday, April 26. Emmet Potter died at the scene of a single-vehicle van collision on Derrycourtney Road near Caledon after 23:00 BST on Saturday, April 25. Police, ambulance and fire services attended. Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins offered condolences to the families.
