Derry Man Fined for Assault and Threats After Child's Prank
Lee O'Donnell, 28, from Lettershandoney Avenue in Derry, admitted assault, threats to kill, and threats to damage property. The offences took place on February 27.
O'Donnell's partner informed him that their five-year-old son had been sworn at by a neighbour. O'Donnell went to the neighbour's house, pushed the man when he answered the door, slapped him, and threatened to kill him.
O'Donnell brought his son to the house. The child said 'stop daddy' during the incident.
The neighbour stated he did not know O'Donnell. The neighbour's wife helped de-escalate the situation.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley noted the neighbour showed restraint and common sense.
Quigley said the incident began when the child played knick knock and then lied about it.
Deputy District Judge Liam McStay called O'Donnell's behaviour outrageous, noting it was worsened by bringing his son. McStay fined O'Donnell £300 and ordered him to pay £500 compensation.
