A teenage boy was assaulted in Derry in the early hours of Sunday morning, suffering a broken nose. Police are investigating the incident as a sectarian-motivated hate crime.

The attack occurred after the boy attended a friend's birthday party. Reports indicate sectarian abuse was shouted beforehand, singling him out as perceived to be a Protestant.

Foyle MP described the assault as 'vicious' and 'totally unacceptable', stating there is no place for sectarian violence in Derry. The MP called for anyone with information to contact police and urged parents to discuss the incident with their children to promote inclusivity.

People Before Profit Councillor Shaun Harkin condemned the attack, stating it does not represent the people of the city. He said any sectarian act harms everyone and pledged to challenge all forms of hatred dividing communities.
