Motorists in Omagh will encounter road closures and traffic management measures over the coming weeks as work continues on a new £4.5 million road project.

The scheme, which links the Old Mountfield and Mountjoy Roads junction to the Gortin Road, is being constructed to serve the Strule Shared Education Campus. The campus is scheduled to open in September 2028.

A one-way closure will be in place on the Mountjoy Road between the Old Mountfield Road and Killybrack Road from Friday, November 6 at 7pm until Sunday at 6pm. Traffic will be able to travel into town but must follow a diversion route out of town.

The one-way closure will be repeated for resurfacing on Saturday, November 21 from 6am until 2.30pm, and Sunday, November 22 from 6am until 2.30pm. The road is expected to reopen in both directions before the Christmas light switch-on event in Omagh on Saturday, November 21.

A signed diversion will direct traffic via B0048 Sedan Avenue, B0048 McConnell Place, B0048 Abbey Street, B0048 Derry Road, B0048 Strathroy Road Link Road, and U1528 Strathroy Road.

Three-way traffic lights will operate at the Killybrack Road, Mountjoy Road and Gortin Road junction for civil works starting November 2 and continuing for three weeks.

The Department for Infrastructure stated it has planned the works and traffic management to ensure safety for the public and workers. Road users are advised to allow extra time for journeys and follow signed alternative routes. Access for property owners and deliveries will be maintained.
