Omagh Road Upgrades Nearing Key Milestone for Strule Education Campus
Road upgrades worth £4.5 million in Omagh, linked to the new Strule Shared Education Campus, approach a significant stage by the end of this month. The Department for Infrastructure expects works on Lisanelly Avenue and Mountfield Road to finish largely then.
Traffic congestion has affected Lisanelly Avenue, Mountfield Road, and Gortin Road recently. Motorists faced warnings of disruptions until late August. Work continues in the area for months ahead, with resurfacing set for April that may require full road closures.
Harry Gallagher, a senior roads service official in the Western Division, noted complications from numerous underground utility services. The project includes wider footways from Grange Park toward Gortin Road, a cycleway, and additional amenities. A footpath will appear on the east side of the road for the first time.
The scheme features extensive tree planting to replace century-old trees removed for construction. Department for Infrastructure representatives plan to meet local councillors later this month on various roads issues, including Gortin Road disruptions.
The Strule campus carries a £370 million price tag.
