Sudden death in Kesh: police not treating as suspicious, MLAs express sympathy
Police are investigating an unexpected death after a body was recovered from the Muckross Bay area of Kesh, Co Fermanagh, on Thursday morning.
Officers and ambulance crews attended the scene on the Muckros Road shortly after the discovery and remain in the area. The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed the deceased is a man in his 80s.
A post-mortem examination will be held in due course, but the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage, police said.
Local political representatives have expressed shock and offered sympathy to the family. DUP MLA Deborah Erskine urged the public to avoid speculation and respect the family's privacy. She also praised the emergency service response for its professionalism and compassion.
Ulster Unionist MLA Diana Armstrong said the close-knit Kesh community and wider Fermanagh area would share the family's grief. She also used the opportunity to remind people to take care around water, noting the number of visitors to Lough Erne and local waterways during the summer months.
There are no further details at this time, police said.
