Southern Regional College Retains Matrix Quality Standard for Careers Services
Southern Regional College has secured re-accreditation for its careers service and campus services under the Matrix Quality Standard, an international benchmark for information, advice and guidance services. The standard will remain in place for a further three years.
External assessor Sue Harding visited the college from 12 to 14 May 2026 to evaluate the service against 29 criteria. Evidence was collected from 14 members of staff across management, careers, campus services and curriculum areas, and input was also received from students and external partners including the Department for the Economy and local feeder schools. In total, more than 40 individuals contributed to the process.
The assessment commended the college’s commitment to its “Putting the Learner First” value, noting that learners benefit from high-quality support and impartial advice. Good practice was identified in pre-enrolment advice sessions, use of an online careers platform, and the provision of welcoming and inclusive campus environments with specialist support spaces.
Frank McCourt, Careers and Learning Resources Manager, said the accreditation demonstrates the quality of information and guidance provided by the teams. Campus Services Manager Michelle O’Callaghan described it as recognition of outstanding delivery across the college. Lorraine McKeown, Assistant Director for Student Services and Marketing, stated that retaining the standard under the new framework highlights both established practices and a commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring learners receive exceptional support in making informed decisions about their future.
The Matrix Quality Standard is built around seven elements including purpose, resources, delivery and continuous improvement. The re-accreditation confirms that Southern Regional College’s services meet rigorous international requirements for quality and effectiveness.
