Southern Regional College Celebrates Student Achievements at Annual Awards
Southern Regional College held its annual Celebration of Success awards at the Canal Court Hotel, presenting more than 60 awards to students across its campuses.
The event included Student of the Year honours across four faculties, four Rising Star awards, 41 Student Recognition Awards, and Medals of Excellence for WorldSkills competitors. Employer Choice Awards were also handed out, alongside student choice awards for Most Inspirational Classmate and Best Team Player.
Lee Campbell, SRC principal and chief executive, said the ceremony highlighted the exceptional success and commitment of the students. She remarked that students across all campuses had demonstrated what can be achieved when ambition meets opportunity and learning is matched by determination. She added that they have overcome challenges, discovered passions and exceeded expectations. Mrs Campbell said she hopes all students are inspired by their own achievements and those of their peers, and wished them well in further study, employment or new adventures.
Among those recognised were Carter McKnight from Moira and Ross Graham from Banbridge, who won gold in Mechatronics at the WorldSkills UK national finals last November. Joe Cullen, a Body Panel Repair apprentice at SRC's Portadown campus, secured a bronze medal at the same competition on his debut. Evan Pepper from Dollingston was recognised for becoming the first SRC student to represent the college at the Irish Schools Golf Finals.
A group of engineering degree students were also honoured, including Guilherme Passos, Sean Treanor, Fearghal Murphy, alongside McKnight and Graham.
