South West College has received the Autism NI Impact Award for Education. The award recognises the college's efforts to support autistic and neurodivergent students and staff.

Autism NI presented the award to the college for developing autism-accessible practices. The college's Autism Working Group coordinated the work, led by Autism Champions at the institution.

Staff completed autism awareness training from Autism NI. The college also implemented an action plan to improve accessibility across its campuses.

The college introduced a guide to help navigate its facilities and virtual tours of campuses. These tools assist students and staff in familiarising themselves with the environments.

Student Passports are being developed to record individual learner needs and share them with staff for consistent support.

The college updated its Teaching and Learning newsletter and added a section to its self-evaluation process to highlight inclusion practices.

Christine Kearney, Director of Development at Autism NI, stated that the college implemented practical changes through training and its action plan to promote accessibility.

Celine McCartan, Principal and Chief Executive at South West College, noted that the college adapts to the needs of students and staff to create a supportive environment.

The award launches formally on 2 April for World Autism Day.
