Bangor Cricket Club Extends Perfect Start to League Season with Win Over Derriaghy
Rain delayed the start of the match at Upritchard Park, reducing the contest to 28 overs per side. Derriaghy won the toss and chose to bat first.
Bangor’s opening bowlers Chris Pyper and Angus Farrell kept the run rate in check early on. Pyper struck first, bowling Scott in the third over for a score of 11.
Derriaghy were 38 for 1 after the opening spell. Brodie Harrison and George Prince then applied pressure with tight bowling. Harrison had Derriaghy captain Ross Bailey caught by Sam McMillan, and shortly after, overseas player Matthew Scoble was caught by Seb Yeates off Prince’s bowling.
Jonathan Bell and Craig Lewis built a 50-run partnership to steady the innings, but Will Simpson broke through by bowling Bell. The innings closed on 149 after Pyper claimed another wicket and effected a run out.
Bangor’s chase began with openers Sam McMillan and Seb Yeates. Yeates fell early, edging to slip off Scoble for 6. Mark Hutchinson joined McMillan and immediately found the boundary three times before McMillan was caught for 29, leaving Bangor at 57 for 2.
Brodie Harrison and Mark Hutchinson then combined for an unbroken partnership. They mixed quick running between the wickets with boundary hitting. Harrison reached his 50 from 31 deliveries, and the pair finished the job comfortably, with Harrison hitting the winning runs.
The victory maintains Bangor’s 100 percent record after four league matches.
