A Portadown woman has pleaded guilty to persisting in wasteful calls to police, making 100 contacts in three months about matters that had no relevance to law enforcement.

Kahlilah Sitler, of Coronation Street, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday and admitted two offences: wasteful employment of police time and improper use of the public communications network.

The court heard that between 1 November last year and 31 January, Sitler called the 999 emergency line 31 times and dialed the non-emergency 101 number on 69 occasions. A prosecutor told the court the calls included talk of Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and details of her private life, none of which were police matters.

The prosecution said Sitler has mental health difficulties and constantly reports matters without any basis for police involvement. A pre-sentence report highlighted alcohol as a contributing factor and noted she had previously carried out community service, but probation authorities were no longer willing to offer community-based sentences. She was also in breach of a suspended prison term imposed for a similar offence.

Defence barrister Conor Lunny described his client, originally from Namibia, as an intelligent woman who had become isolated after a relationship breakdown and had not seen her children in six years. He said she had recently secured stable accommodation and asked the court to show compassion, noting that prison would not address her mental health needs.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan deferred sentence for six months and set strict conditions: Sitler must engage with her GP and mental health services and commit no further offending. The judge warned that failure to comply would result in activation of the existing five-month suspended sentence, doubled to 10 months’ imprisonment. The case was adjourned to 4 December.
