COLERAINE: A 20-year-old teaching assistant from Ballymoney, charged with 16 counts of abusing a teenage girl, had his case sent to Antrim Crown Court for arraignment in September after a district judge found a prima facie case to answer. He remains on remand in custody.

CRAIGAVON: A healthcare assistant who filmed and mocked five dementia patients in their care at Craigavon Area Hospital was handed a combination order of two years on probation and 100 hours of community service. Judge Patrick McGurgan told Ciara Corvan, 28, that her actions caused the degradation and humiliation of those completely helpless to defend themselves, and warned that any breach of the order would result in a custodial sentence.

NEWTOWNARDS: A mother and son who ran a jewellery business have been charged with stealing £46,000 worth of jewellery from customers between 2018 and 2019. Patricia Ainley, 68, and her son Andrew Robin Ainley, 37, did not appear at the hearing and the case was adjourned to 6 August for a preliminary enquiry.
