A new community play park has opened in Cavanaleck, providing the village with its first dedicated recreational facility for children and families.

The project was delivered through the Outdoor Recreational Capital Programme, part of the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan. It is one of 10 outdoor community spaces due to be transformed across the district under the programme, which is supported by PEACEPLUS and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). Match funding was provided by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

Council chair Debbie Coyle said the park marked a significant milestone for the village, as the first play facility of its kind in the area. She added that it offers a valuable resource for local families and young people, and reflects the council’s commitment to creating inclusive spaces that promote health, wellbeing and community connections.

Errol Thompson, chair of the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Partnership, said the investment demonstrated the benefits of PEACEPLUS funding. He stated that the programme is helping to transform community spaces across the district, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and enjoy shared facilities.

The PEACEPLUS programme is co-funded by the European Union, the UK Government, the Irish Government and the Northern Ireland Executive.
