Portadown Man Denied Bail Over Domestic Assault and Intimidation Charges
Colin McGeown, 33, from Charlestown Road in Craigavon, appeared in court accused of grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charges relate to an incident at a house in Garvaghy Grove, Portadown, on August 8 last year.
Prosecutors stated police responded to reports of a woman lying on the ground shouting for help outside the property. Officers found her in bed intoxicated next to McGeown, with swollen and painful ankles.
The woman alleged McGeown pulled her hair, bit her hand, and forced her out of a bedroom window onto a small roof before pushing her off. She fell about 10 feet and sustained broken bones in her heels. She received treatment at Craigavon Area Hospital and requires further surgery.
McGeown denied the allegations, claiming he tried to help her after she fell down stairs. He also faces a witness intimidation charge from February 21 this year after allegedly making up to 100 calls to the woman, threatening to burn her and her family out of their homes unless she dropped the complaint.
One call came from a man identifying himself as Colin while PSNI officers were present with the woman. McGeown denied the intimidation, stating he had no phone.
Judge Gilpin refused bail, citing allegations of breaching previous terms by contacting the woman, who has vulnerabilities making her susceptible to intimidation. McGeown had obtained bail in December last year but was remanded again on the new charge.
