Bluebell Walk at Baronscourt Estate Raises £5,300 for NSPCC
A charity walk through the bluebell woods at Baronscourt Estate in Newtownstewart has raised £5,300 for the NSPCC. Around 560 people attended the event, which was organised by the charity’s Omagh and District Committee.
The walk followed a marked two-and-a-half mile route through the private estate, which is not normally open to the public. Visitors could also take a shorter path directly to the bluebell areas. The day included an afternoon tea prepared by committee members, and a new jam jar raffle with gardening-themed prizes.
Carol Simpson, chairperson of the Omagh and District Committee, said the success of the walks reflected the work and commitment of the local fundraising group and showed strong community support for the charity.
The committee first held a bluebell walk at Baronscourt in 2012. The connection to the estate came through the late Lady Moyra Campbell, a founding member of the committee and an NSPCC trustee. Since that first event, the annual walks have raised a total of £29,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland.
