Cllr Ruairí McHugh, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, hosted a reception for Ray McGinley to mark her 80th birthday and the release of her memoir Finding the Music.

Ray McGinley founded the McGinley School of Music and Drama. She has provided music education in Derry and Donegal for over 50 years. She has mentored thousands of young people for competitions and music examinations.

McGinley led the McGinley School Choir. She co-wrote the memoir with her husband Michael.

Mayor McHugh stated that McGinley's work has supported the cultural and musical life of the city and region. He noted that she has helped generations of young people build their talents and confidence. He called the book a reflection of her lifetime of passion and community involvement. He offered congratulations on her achievements and wished her a happy birthday.
