Derry City and Strabane District Council Mayor Councillor Ruairí McHugh hosted a civic reception at the Guildhall on 27 March to mark Jean Hegarty's retirement from the Museum of Free Derry.

The event gathered Ms Hegarty's family, friends, and colleagues from the Bloody Sunday Trust.

Mayor McHugh recognised Ms Hegarty's commitment to maintaining the museum's history and legacy along with her advocacy efforts.

He thanked her for her dedication in sharing the story of a key historical period with future generations.

Ms Hegarty campaigned for truth and justice after her brother Kevin McElhinney died on Bloody Sunday.
