Catholic Bishop of Derry Donal McKeown and Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe Andrew Forster visited the Fountain estate in Londonderry on Wednesday night following attacks on homes there the previous evening.

Police reported disorder at the Bishop Street and Nailors Row interface on Tuesday, where officers faced petrol bombs and missiles. Children as young as 10 took part, according to police.

Two boys, aged 13 and 14, faced arrest over the incident in Bishop Street. Both received bail for further inquiries.

Bishop Forster stated that those organizing the events should consider their impact on the children involved. He described speaking to residents near the interface and noted the danger from projectiles landing in gardens.

Forster called for the community to unite against the violence and to consider the fears of those affected. He mentioned concerns over community relations being in a delicate balance.

Bishop McKeown said no one wants young people burdened by past conflicts, pointing to existing cases in the city. He hoped for a united city response.

Ch Supt Gillian Kearney, Derry City and Strabane Area Commander, raised concerns of paramilitary involvement in Tuesday's disorder. She cited factors like longer nights and sectarian incidents. Kearney confirmed ongoing investigations with more arrests expected and a continued police presence.

Police noted the area stayed calm Wednesday night with no further trouble.
