Derry City and Strabane District Council's Planning Committee approved a play park in Coshquin and a 27-apartment project in Strabane town centre at its monthly meeting in the Guildhall.

The Coshquin play park sits next to Little Acorns Pre-School on Benview Road, opposite Cosh Bar and Grill. This approval renews a previous permission. Construction awaits funding. It includes play equipment, safety surfacing, fencing, gates, seating, bins, cycle stands, footpaths, tree and shrub planting, grassed areas, and signage. Level pathways aid access for all abilities. No objections came from consultation. No major environmental or traffic impacts appeared.

Councillor John Boyle, Planning Committee chair, called the play park an investment for Coshquin families that provides a safe space for children.

In Strabane, the committee unanimously approved demolishing four derelict dwellings at 104-110 Main Street. The site will hold four one-bedroom apartments and 23 two-bedroom units. It borders the Mourne River. Features cover a courtyard, cycle storage, and connections to river walk, parking, and town services. Some units count as affordable housing. The site uses brownfield land.

Councillor John Boyle said the Strabane project turns a vacant site into homes that meet housing needs and support town centre activity. No objections occurred. Consultees noted no issues with conditions.
