Two Teenagers Arrested After Disorder at Derry Interface
Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of riotous behaviour linked to recent disorder at the Nailors Row interface in Derry. The boy remains in custody. This marks the second arrest in 24 hours related to unrest in the area.
A 13-year-old boy had been arrested the previous day on the same charge and released on bail for further enquiries. Incidents occurred on April 20-21 and May 4-5 in the Bishop Street, Fountain, and Nailors Row areas. Some participants wore masks.
On Tuesday evening, police received a report around 5:30pm of masked youths gathered in the Bishop Street area. Officers closed the street temporarily after glass bottles, fireworks, petrol bombs, and masonry targeted police vehicles.
Derry City and Strabane Area Commander Chief Superintendent Gillian Kearney stated the investigation aims to identify all involved and that police will act against those responsible.
