Derry Police Launch Operation Against Planned Youth Fights This Weekend
Police in Derry have launched a policing operation to prevent a pre-arranged fight among young people scheduled for Friday and possibly over the weekend. Chief Inspector Cathal Pearce announced the plan targets anti-social behaviour.
Officers stated they will take a robust approach to anyone involved. Pearce said young people gathering in large numbers for fights affect the community.
He emphasised that such behaviour harms public spaces and homes. Pearce warned participants risk consequences that impact future job and travel options.
Activities include loud music, drinking, criminal damage and fighting. Pearce called on parents and guardians to track their children's locations, companions, activities and social media.
Police are coordinating with local schools, community representatives, elected members, retailers and the Police and Community Safety Partnership.
Residents can report issues on 101 for non-emergencies or 999 for emergencies. Anonymous reports go to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
