Councillor Ruairí McHugh, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, trained at Dylan Arnold Fitness in Strabane. The session prepared him and other participants for the MAYOR-ROX Hyrox simulation event.

Coach Aodhan Gallen led the training. It covered functional fitness stations participants will face at the Melvin Sports Complex on Saturday, May 30.

MAYOR-ROX marks the district's first mass participation Hyrox simulation. The event combines running with workout stations. Funds raised support PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland Charity and the Castlederg Patient Comfort and Terminally Ill Fund.

Registration requires a minimum donation of £50 at www.derrystrabane.com/mayorrox. Participants may enter as individuals or relay teams. Additional fundraising is encouraged.

Mayor McHugh noted the session gave a preview of race demands. Coach Gallen stated the training builds physical and mental preparation.
