Police received a report at 3.30am on Wednesday, May 6, of an incident at a flat in Coleraine's Westbourne Crescent area. Officers observed damage to the living room and kitchen of the property. A man in his 50s was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Brandon Quinn, 31, of Somerset Drive in Coleraine, faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm to the man. He also faces charges of possession of cannabis, diazepam, ketamine, testosterone, tramadol and valium.

Quinn appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 7, via video link from a police station. A police officer told the court he believed he could connect Quinn to the charges.

The officer stated the injured man had been in intensive care on Wednesday. He added that no statement of complaint had been made as the man remained in hospital and was not yet fit to provide one.

A defence solicitor confirmed no bail application was made due to lack of an available address. No statements of evidence had been recorded at that stage.

The court remanded Quinn in custody. The case was adjourned to Coleraine Magistrates Court on May 18.
