Fermanagh Mother's Cancer Fundraiser Tops £109,000 for Istanbul Treatment
A fundraising campaign for Pamela Stephens, a mother from Enniskillen in Fermanagh, has raised £109,067. The appeal passed its £70,000 target with more than 2,100 donations. Stephens runs a hairdressing business in Enniskillen and has three children and two grandchildren.
Diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer 15 months ago, the illness spread to her liver and brain. After local treatments ended, her family started the campaign for care at a specialist hospital in Istanbul. Doctors there provided a treatment plan.
Stephens completed a course of radiotherapy and moved to an apartment near the hospital. The location offers proximity to treatment and shops, plus space for family visits. She lives with two tumours affecting her speech, vision, and one side of her body, requiring a wheelchair.
She now starts weekly chemotherapy for 10 cycles, following a strict diet and supplements to regain strength. Her husband Anthony Stephens noted improvements in her speech and walking since arrival. He stated the support gives her another chance at life and time for family memories.
On April 22, Jonathan Tracey donated £1,000. Stephens expressed determination to continue fighting during treatment.
