Police in Dungannon stopped a motorist from Glenavy on Old Eglish Road on August 10 after a report of a suspected drink-driver in a van from the Moira direction at 8.47am. Thomas Cleary of Gobrana Road provided a breath specimen with 109 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit stands at 35 micrograms. Cleary received a £400 fine plus a £15 offender's levy at Dungannon Magistrates Court. Deputy District Judge Brian Archer heard that officers detected alcohol on his breath and noted he was unsteady on his feet. Cleary stated to police that he had been drinking from the previous night until 1.30am.

In a separate case, police stopped Joseph McCloskey, 28, from Ranaghan Road in Maghera, on Cookstown Road on August 17 following a report at 8.06am of a swerving driver. The reporting driver followed McCloskey from Coalpit Road towards Cookstown and recorded his driving on dashcam. Officers stopped him at Chapel Street in Cookstown where a breath test showed 58 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres. McCloskey received a £400 fine plus £15 levy for the drink-driving offence and an additional £200 fine for driving without due care and attention. He told police he had consumed alcohol the night before. Deputy District Judge Brian Archer noted McCloskey's poor driving record and stated he should not have driven after drinking. McCloskey has 26 weeks to pay the fines.
