A Dungannon man has been disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined after he was caught driving at 104 mph while over the alcohol limit on the M1 motorway.

Darryl Mullan, aged 28 and from Kindrum, was observed by police officers conducting speed checks on 25 March. They saw his BMW travelling at high speed in heavy rain and noted the driving was dangerous.

After stopping the vehicle, officers smelled alcohol and noticed that Mullan’s speech was slurred. A roadside breath test recorded 60 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit in Northern Ireland is 35 micrograms.

Mullan was arrested and taken to the police custody suite in Dungannon. He appeared before Dungannon Magistrates Court, where District Judge Francis Rafferty imposed the ban alongside fines totalling £500.
