Gary Kenneth James O'Hara, 34, of no fixed abode, received a 32-month sentence at Belfast Crown Court. The term splits evenly between prison and licence. He pleaded guilty to seven charges related to an incident at Grand Central Station on October 14, 2025.

O'Hara broke into the station with intent to steal. He possessed a glass safety hammer for burglary. He damaged three glass doors and a glass panel owned by Translink. He entered a Translink portacabin and took a jacket and hat. He assaulted a security guard. He resisted and assaulted police.

At 1.35am, PSNI received a report from a Translink duty manager of a male inside the station kicking doors and shutters. CCTV showed O'Hara wearing a stolen high-vis jacket and beanie hat. Footage captured him damaging glass and threatening the security guard with the hammer.

Police found O'Hara hiding behind a wall. He stated he was under the influence of Spice. After arrest and handcuffing, he reacted to a refused cigarette by lashing out at officers. He shouted and swore, threatening police.

O'Hara sustained fractures to both ankles after jumping a wall to flee. He received treatment at Royal Victoria Hospital. During police interview on October 16, he gave no comment responses.

His solicitor, Ciaran Toner, noted O'Hara lived rough at the time and had used drugs for four days. Toner mentioned complex mental health and addiction issues. O'Hara had visited Royal Victoria Hospital an hour before the incident.

Judge Kerr noted O'Hara's record of 160 prior offences, including 45 burglaries and 27 criminal damage charges. The judge acknowledged addiction and mental health problems but highlighted refusals of prison-based treatments. Judge Kerr cited recent employment at a barber shop as a positive sign and described O'Hara as caught in the act.
