A 42-year-old man from Glassheena Road in Downpatrick faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm to a PSNI sergeant, assault on police, disorderly behaviour, and possessing Class B drugs.

The incident occurred at Musgrave PSNI Station in Belfast last weekend. Police encountered Mark McEntee in Downpatrick on March 21 after he threatened to hang himself.

Officers detained him under the Mental Health Order and took him to Ulster Hospital in Dundonald. His behaviour worsened, leading to an arrest.

During transport to the station, McEntee resisted physically and said he had cannabis. The situation escalated in custody as officers restrained him.

An investigating officer stated that McEntee gripped the sergeant's hand between his body and the ground, crushing it and causing fractures.

The sergeant received hospital treatment confirming the fractures. McEntee's lawyer noted his client's mental health issues and recent breakup with his girlfriend in Downpatrick, which led to suicidal feelings.

Belfast Magistrates’ Court refused bail. District Judge Anne Marshall remanded McEntee in custody until April 22, citing high risk of re-offending.
