Newry businesses have voted to extend the local Business Improvement District for a third term. A ballot saw 198 businesses cast yes votes, achieving a 92% approval rate.

Eamonn Connolly, Newry BID Manager, stated the outcome shows businesses value the support provided to the city centre. He noted partnerships with local businesses, stakeholders and public agencies have grown over 10 years.

Connolly highlighted efforts to address challenges and foster growth in the city centre during the previous terms. The renewal enables continuation of these initiatives.

Peter Murray, Centre Manager at Buttercrane Shopping Centre, stepped down as BID Board chair. Rory McShane of McShane Solicitors takes over the role.

The new term starts with events to promote wellbeing and draw visitors to the city centre. A programme called Health in the City will launch after Easter, featuring activities for healthy living.

Connolly expressed plans to keep collaborating with partners to develop the city centre. Newry BID thanked Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Civica for managing the ballot.
