Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has expressed concern that a private company providing social care may be prioritising profit over patient needs. In a statement, the Mid Ulster representative said she is worried that savings made in care packages could drive the company's profitability.

Dillon said social care must be a priority and people who need a care package to live independently at home should have access without delays. She questioned whether the company might abuse its position and whether patient needs would be prioritised over cost savings.

The MLA has written to the Health Minister asking what oversight will be in place for the company. She said money within the trusts should not be wasted and should be used to pay for care packages.

The company in question was not named in her statement.
