Police Seize Alcohol from Teen Crowds in Carrickfergus Amid Antisocial Behaviour Patrols
Police conducted proactive patrols in Carrickfergus on an evening, targeting areas with reports of antisocial behaviour. Officers encountered large groups of teenagers and seized a significant quantity of alcohol, which they disposed of.
A PSNI spokesperson stated that the action aims to reduce youth-related antisocial behaviour caused by alcohol. The spokesperson noted that underage drinking raises risks for young people facing crime or danger. Officers emphasised that public spaces in Carrickfergus should remain safe for residents without intimidation.
Police coordinated with community workers and elected representatives during the patrols. They engaged groups of young people in discussions about how behaviour affects perceptions, even if no wrongdoing occurs.
Some offences were detected, leading to alcohol seizures. Officers contacted parents and returned certain teenagers home. Follow-up involves the Youth Diversion Officer, with some young people entering the criminal justice system to prevent future offences.
PSNI urged parents and guardians to track their teenagers' locations, companions, and consumption. Police called for conversations on underage drinking risks and antisocial behaviour's community impact, preferring young people stay safe at home over police transport.
